CEMENT, GLASS AND CERAMIC SECTORS ADDED 21 BILLION DOLLARS OF DOMESTIC ADDED VALUE BY EXPORTING 27.6 BILLION DOLLARS IN 10 YEARS
The online press conference, where the export data for 2020 and the domestic added value created in exports were announced by the Cement, Glass, Ceramics and Soil Products Exporters' Association, was held on February 9, 2021. Deputy Chairman of the Board of Directors Feyyaz Ünal and Tansu Kumru attended the meeting, where Erdem Çenesiz, Chairman of the Board of Directors, presented export data, and 30 press members, including from the written, visual and digital media, attended the meeting. At the meeting, Erdem Çenesiz stated that the sectors within the Union continued their steady growth in exports despite the challenging conditions of the pandemic, and Chairman of the Board of Directors, Çenesiz said, “While the ceramics industry, which exports 1.3 billion dollars in 2020, grew by 6.6 percent, it increased by 27 percent with 1.1 billion dollars of exports. The cement sector, which has grown 3 times, achieved a very important success. Although the glass industry gave its priority to the domestic market, it reached figures very close to the previous year with 865 million dollars of exports. As a result of all these, the total exports of all sectors within our Union increased by 7.7% and approached 4 billion dollars.”
Pointing out that the domestic added value created by the cement, glass and ceramics industries in exports is three times the average of Turkey, Erdem Çenesiz said, “The domestic value added rate of our ceramics industry is 82 percent, that is, 82 dollars out of every 100 dollars of exports goes to our country. This rate reaches 79 percent in the glass industry and 68 percent in the cement industry. Our three main sectors created a domestic added value of $ 2.5 billion in 2020, providing this amount of net foreign exchange earnings to our country. Again, out of the total exports of these three main sectors of 27.6 billion dollars in the last 10 years, the domestic added value offered to our country and the net foreign exchange created have been approximately 21 billion dollars.
